An artifact is a file, or another addressable output, that one attempt wrote and other attempts read. Artifacts are the hand-offs between agents. The run records who wrote and who read an artifact, never its content.

Requirements

  • producer MUST name an existing attempt (E118) and MUST equal writers[0]: the producer is the first writer (E162).
  • writers and consumers MUST be arrays of existing attempt ids (E167), each attempt listed once (E166). writers is never empty; consumers MAY be.
  • A known n_writes MUST be at least the number of writers, and a known n_reads at least the number of consumers (E163). A null count is unknown and is not checked.
  • first_write_at is always present, and null when the producer cannot compute it.
  • path is a locator (absolute or relative to the workspace), never content.
  • An artifact edge records one hand-off of an artifact between two attempts; see Edges.

Versions (0.3)

From 0.3 an artifact can name the workflow artifact it instantiates (vertex), its version from 1, and the artifact it supersedes, so a revised diff after a review is a new version of the same workflow artifact rather than an unrelated file. transfer_tokens records, per consuming attempt, the tokens spent reading the artifact, when known.
